Dedicated to the famed Arctic explorers of the 1800s and before, Arcticus is an authentic Victorian display font guaranteed to garner your design the attention it deserves!
Arcticus is based on a typeface designed and produced by the Benjamin Krebs Nachfolger Type Foundry of Frankfurt am Main, Germany sometime around 1890. The original typeface was named "Reklame Kursiv" and was designed for advertising purposes.
Characterized by ornate drop caps, elaborate ascenders and descenders, and an interesting mix between a serif and a script typeface, the original letterforms have been cleaned up and the verticals straightened a bit for a more uniform look.
The font comes in two variations: Standard and Outlined based on the original lead type forms of Reklame Kursiv.
A QUICK TIP FROM VICTORIAN TYPESETTERS
Write your catchword with Arcticus in your favorite program. Enclose the text with two horizontal lines - one above and one below. Select all and rotate them 17 degrees counterclockwise to make your text climb! Arcticus' verticals will be exactly 90 degrees this way without any skew or digital distortion - just how our forefathers did it in the late 1800s!
