The Medicine Show Kit Vol.1

To celebrate the opening of my Creative Market store I’m offering the MEDICINE SHOW KIT Vol.1 for a special limited time price of only $18! This special celebratory price will only last until September 29th

Got a bathtub filled with butterbur swamp-root oil or a cast-iron kettle full of fig turpentine panacea you need to unload? The MEDICINE SHOW kit will have you on your way to market in no time!

Welcome to the MEDICINE SHOW Kit Volume1, a hefty collection of high quality, hard-to-find ‘Patent Medicine’ ephemera - carefully restored and given new life as digital design files.

This kit contains over 150 product and advertising-cut images along with dozens more original wording/phrases pulled straight from the source.

The bulk of the kit comes from the mid to late 1800’s - the patent medicine ’sweet spot.’ All images are free of copyright and have been converted to 100% scalable (vector) art. Also included are transparent high-resolution grayscale PNG files.

The MEDICINE SHOW kit vol.1 has tons of project potential - posters, apparel, mugs, transfers, invites, get-well-soon cards, scrapbooking, etc. The imagination’s the limit!

  • 32 Vintage woodcut, etched and hand-drawn bottle images (most are medicine), cleaned of all prior label art. These make really great mockups for current-day vintage-style label/logo projects.

  • 17 Product label blanks of various sizes and 4 product box blanks. Being actual-era graphics, these are far from perfectly drawn or ruled. Wonderful imperfections like these give a vintage chime of authenticity to current-day vintage-style design projects. Medicine label blanks also make for interesting business cards.

  • 17 Hard-to-find ‘point-of sale’ advertising cuts featuring medicine bottles. Originally used to showcase label branding for patent medicines. These make killer product/logo mock-ups. Restored and cleaned of old label art and are ready for repurposing.

  • 40 Advertising cuts of (mostly) sick people! Hard-to-find images with many requiring major work before they made it into the kit. A perfect fit for ‘Get Well Soon’ cards & work-week ’Monday blues’ newsletter cuts and the like.

  • Over 40 images of amazing original patent medicine label, logo and box art. A monsoon-sized brain-storm of visual inspiration for any artist/designer! Although many are well over a hundred years old, these images still hold a mysterious carnival-like allure.

  • Kit also includes a large set of words and phrases pulled from actual medicine ads and labels and saved as image files. Quite a few showcase unique forms of hand-lettering. All the wording in this set has that ‘authentically vintage’ rough-print feel to it.

  • And as a BONUS, includes both the ‘TRAVELING MEDICINE SHOW’ image (the background image in the kit previews) and the official “MEDICINE SHOW” kit logo (the one in all the previews).

  • Includes three file formats: (vector) Ai, and EPS & (raster) PNG. All are comprised of single-color images on transparent backgrounds.

  • EPS images share 35 high-resolution 4667 x 3014 pixel files.

  • The PNG images share 35 separate grayscale high-resolution (300 DPI) 4667 x 3014 pixel files. Note: The PNG files contain grayscale images - if you plan to use the images as (or in) a color file remember to convert these files to RGB (or CMYK) first.

THANK YOU for checking out theMEDICINE SHOW kit, my first Creative Market offering. If you have any questions or concerns, please message me.

For anyone wondering what 'PATENT MEDICINES' were:

Patent medicines were over-the-counter concoctions which touted exotic ingredients and promised to cure every disease known to man - but in reality consisted of common items steeped in grain alcohol or laced with opium, cocaine, even arsenic, for a quick ‘kick.’ They may have been worthless as far as medicines go, but patent medicines had a huge impact on American culture - unwittingly, the world of shady medicine hucksters gave birth to what we now call ‘product branding’...
