CREATING HAND-CARVED DIGITAL ILLUSTRATIONS

White River Studio linocut illustrations begin with a drawing on a linoleum carving block. The image is hand-carved using traditional linocut tools in my studio. The next step (the best part) involves printing the linocut on paper to reveal its unique graphic quality. I use non-toxic water-soluble inks for printing. The print is then scanned to create a digital file. Once the image is digitized it is enhanced using Photoshop and Illustrator. This technique allows me to play with colour, add text and fine-tune the illustration while maintaining its handmade character. I always include transparent background PNG files as well as Illustrator 10 EPS vector files.

Digital files are high-resolution (600 dpi). Illustrator 10 EPS vector files are also included to allow for enlarging and customization.
