Today’s quick Design it Yourself project is all about making a spring-themed calendar wallpaper that’ll brighten your screen. Like always, we’re keeping it simple with ready-made elements from independent artists. Want more ideas like this? Check out our Design it Yourself series.
Step 1: Set Up Your Canvas
Open Adobe Illustrator and create a new artboard. Make sure your dimensions match your screen—for instance, we’re going with an iPhone 14 setup (1170 × 2532px, 21:9 ratio). Go to File > New, punch in your size, and hit Create. Easy.
Step 2: Pick Your Elements
Jump onto Creative Market and grab spring-themed illustrations that feel fresh—think flowers, pastel shades, and leafy details. We’re using “Riads – Stylish Handwriting Font” by ARSAVISUAL for the text, so download that and get it installed. Save everything in one folder so it’s quick to find.
Step 3: Start Composing
Drag your chosen illustrations onto your artboard and move them around to build your spring vibe. Use Illustrator’s Layers Panel to keep organized—trust me, it’ll save you headaches later. Play around with sizes, placements, and transparency until everything feels balanced. Group bigger flowers near edges to frame your calendar, then sprinkle smaller bits around for texture.
Step 4: Calendar Basics
Grab your Type Tool (T) and write out your weekdays: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun. Select the Riads font you installed earlier and tweak the size and spacing from the Character panel (Window > Type > Character). Keep it casual but readable.
Step 5: Calendar Grid Setup
Select your weekdays text box, then hit Type > Area Type Options. Set Rows and Columns each to 7. This creates your neat little calendar grid. Click under “Sun,” hit Enter, and start typing dates. Adjust spacing in the Paragraph panel (Window > Type > Paragraph) if needed—clean but chill is the vibe.
Step 6: Make It Personal
Don’t forget to mark down special dates, birthdays, or deadlines. Highlight them using Illustrator’s Ellipse Tool (shortcut L). Circles in subtle colors work great—drop their opacity a bit to keep the look soft and integrated.
That’s it! In just a few steps, you’ve got a fresh, personalized spring wallpaper. Now go brighten up that screen and make it yours.
