Impossibly Neat Planners of Instagram

If you're a designer who works from home, there's a good chance you know about the undeniable importance of a planner: they help you keep your appointments straight, your deadlines in order and your life generally organized. However, if you're a designer, there's also probably a pretty good chance that you know how hard it is to keep a planner looking neat and tidy. With shifting schedules, changing deadlines and last-minute requests, it's easy for a planner to end up looking like a book full of scribbles.

Some designers, however, have gotten the whole beautiful planner thing figured out. The following Instagrammers are designers who create and keep beautiful, impeccable planners — then take and share photos of them for all planner addicts to enjoy. Check out the following channels for some planner design inspiration.

    @Derek - Creativenauts
    1. Because hand-lettering and hand-drawing is pretty.
    2. Because some people are connected to real life outside of screens, too.
    3. Because, when you're at a coffee shop with a friend or potential client, it's a lot less rude to write things on paper than to type it on your phone.
    (Maybe #3 is a little old-school perspective, but I personally think it's true most of the time).

    @Derek - Creativenauts I can't say that mine would look nearly anything like some of these beautiful samples, but it's something to strive for with a bit of practice! Let's put some hand-drawing practice time in our digital planners. haha

    Since I discovered planner stickers and washi tape I've gone wild with mine, I find it helps me to play around with new ideas for patterns and colour schemes - I doodle in it a lot! I print out some of my patterns and stick them in and doodle all over them to make sure the colours work.

  4. StudioDenmark

    Love this! I've been getting into bullet journaling lately and this is some great inspiration. It helps motivate me if I get to doodle and hand letter while planning.

  5. jan.malcolm

    Thanks so much for the mention! I don't really think it's impossible to improve your writing or doodling skills; I don't consider myself an artist by any stretch but I do like having a creative outlet so that's what my planner is for me. All it takes is desire and practice! On the discussion about digital vs analogue - research is suggesting those that write (rather than type) notes tend to remember the information better. So there is some benefit from pulling out the old Bic and jotting down some stuff :)
