Kerning is no joke. Bad kerning can completely change the look of a word, phrase or sentence, and at times totally changing the meaning. But you don’t have to take my word for it. Just take a look at the piece that Creative Bloq did on the topic recently. Not only did they find some great examples of horrible kerning, but they slayed it in the text. Here are their examples:

  • This really hurts my eyes. Kerning can also lead to misreading a sentence. Like on Apple's landing page of OSX El Captain ( ). The tagline 'There’s more to love with every click.' has recently undergone some adjustments in the kerning of the last word 'click'. Previously it was much tighter kerned, so a lot of people didn't see the individual 'c' and 'l' but a 'd'. Well, that makes the meaning of the sentence a lot different, not very Apple like... 6 years ago

  • I just don't understand how things like this happen! I feel like this stuff has to go through more than one person right??? 5 years ago
  • It's even worse here in Wales (UK) where I live, motorway notices have to be in Welsh and English and some of them have so many characters squeezed into a small space that you're on top of them before you can even read them. It just reads as a square or rectangular blur. 5 years ago
