The marketplace keeps growing, and so does our team. I am very excited to announce that this past week Kelley Johnson<\/a> joined the Creative Market team heading up all things Community. You will find her joining conversations in the Discussions area, on blog posts, on our social profile posts and more. To learn more about Kelley, I’ll let her take the mic and tell her story.<\/p>\n

<\/span>What were you doing before you joined the Creative Market team?<\/span><\/h2>\n

\nMy very first job was selling hot dogs and other deep-fried delicacies out of a grease-covered vendor stand during the 2002 Evergreen State Fair. It was a pretty glorious gig, yet I’ve somehow managed to go uphill from there.
\nBetween high school and college classes I spent most of my time working at an elite private school in Scottsdale, Arizona. After graduating from Arizona State University, I went on to teach 4th grade in that same string of schools.
\nWhile education and teaching were incredibly important to me (and always will be), I constantly found myself drawn to a more creative life. I had the chance to jump on that impulse about four years ago when my husband Josh and I started pursuing photography professionally. Not long after, I transitioned out of teaching and started working full-time as a photographer. Photography has been such a wonderful creative outlet for me, and it’s a privilege to be able to really dedicate time to doing something I love.
\nWhile our photography work was still in full swing, I found myself missing the world of education. Not long after this realization, the position of Photography Course Editor opened up at Tuts+. Soon, I found myself taking on this roll and thoroughly enjoying the perfect melding of photography and education. Strangely enough, I also took on a communication roll at a local church at the same time. I was spending my weekends taking photos, editing images, and writing blog posts, and my work weeks were full of recruiting, meeting with, and organizing photography instructors; composing and editing tweets, posts, and letters for the church; as well as creating content and learning about the community in all of these areas. I was busy. I was tired. I loved every second of it.
\nFrom all of that, I learned something about myself: I love people. Encouraging and empowering others has been at the center of all my various pursuits (Okay… Maybe not selling hotdogs). As soon as I recognized this pattern, I decided to jump in feet first and embrace it. I considered myself an advocate for my photography instructors, I pushed to build up an online and offline community in the church, and I worked harder to tell people’s stories through my photography.
\nWhen I first heard about the opportunity to jump on board as the community evangelist at Creative Market, I couldn’t have been more excited. I could have one concise job where I get to spend my days supporting and building up a community? Yes please! This opportunity was made even better after I had the chance to talk to multiple people on the Creative Market team. Each one of them expressed a sincere appreciation for the Creative Market community.
\nHere at Creative Market, the community comes first, plain and simple. I’m super excited to be on board that train.\n<\/p>\n

<\/span>Do you have any tools\/software\/gadgets you can’t live without?<\/span><\/h2>\n

\nI became a Mac user at the tail-end of high school and I’ve never looked back. My Macbook Pro is pretty much essential to my life.\n<\/p>\n

<\/span>Do you have any go-to music when you’re working?<\/span><\/h2>\n

\nRight now I’m stuck on Ingrid Michaelson’s new album “Lights Outâ€. You should check it out, it’s pretty stellar.\n<\/p>\n

<\/span>What are some of the projects you’re currently working on?<\/span><\/h2>\n

\nAt the moment, I’m working on learning all I can about the Creative Market community. So far, I’m excited to see how outgoing, connected, and supportive everyone is. This is going to be such a great group to work with!
