Recently we’ve introduced you to two of our latest team members, Sarah<\/a> and Chris<\/a>, and now it’s time for you to meet Josh Farr<\/a>! Josh joined our development team back in August and you may have already seen some of his work around the marketplace with our recent launch of our font preview<\/a> feature. In addition to his amazing programming skills, Josh can talk tech, music, and beer with the best of them, and we’re super excited to have him on board. Join us in welcoming Josh to the team and please feel free to leave any questions or comments below!
\nTell us a little bit about yourself and what you do for Creative Market.<\/strong>
\nI came to San Francisco from Southwest Missouri 6 years ago to help build awesome things with awesome companies. My time at Creative Market is divvied up between implementing new user-facing features on the site and tweaking the servers to make things run better\/faster\/stronger. When I’m not coding or playing video games I can often be found brewing my own beer.
\nWhat were you doing before you joined the team and how did you and Creative Market “find each other”?<\/strong>
\nI was taking some time off after having spent the last few years helping to save the world by building web widgets and RESTful API’s at FirstGiving.com<\/a>. Then Darius found me on LinkedIn and that was pretty much it.
\nWhat’s your workstation like? Do you have any tools\/software\/gadgets you can’t live without?<\/strong>
\nI keep a pretty lean set of tools for developing. Chrome, Sublime Text, and iTerm2 are my essentials. My work office space is still pretty lean – my MacBook Pro, a Cinema Display and a coaster for my coffee. I still need a bit of time to settle in and clutter it up. My home office is another matter entirely. It’s a mess of accumulated trinkets and treasures.

\nDo you have any go-to music when you’re working?<\/strong>
\nMy iPod is chock full of randomness. Usually I just hit shuffle and go with it. A few of my go-to’s: Murder by Death, Beirut, Alexisonfire, Tool, John Frusciante, Cloud Cult, The Mars Volta, The Mountain Goats.
\nWhat’s your favorite programming language?<\/strong>
\nOf course, my daily bread & butter is PHP, but when it comes to favorites I really have to call out two. C++ will always be near & dear to me since it was one of the first programming languages I really learned and used. The creator of C++ once said, “C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot; C++ makes it harder, but when you do it blows your whole leg off.” How can you not love that? Much more recently, I’ve really taken to CoffeeScript. It just feels like such a clean language to write in with all of the syntactic cruft stripped out of it.
\nWhat are some of the projects you’re currently working on?<\/strong>
\nI’ve been working on some new font processing stuff that I’m pretty excited to see on the site soon. I’m also working on improving the site deployment system to make it an easier, more pleasurable experience for all of our developers to get new features released onto the site.
\nDo you have a favorite shop in the marketplace?<\/strong>
\nI’ve come across too many great shops just to single out one. Recently I’ve been taken by the impressive font work of Hold Fast Foundry<\/a> and Decade Type Foundry<\/a>. I’m also a bit of a video game geek so I have a soft spot for Graphics4Games<\/a>.
\nAny parting words of wisdom for our readers?<\/strong>
