When I first tried to use this file, I actually thought something might be wrong with it because it wasn't working how I expected based on the included instructional video. However, after playing around with it for a little bit, I figured it out and can confirm it's awesome. The fact you can make the insert cut-out any shape you want is invaluable!

I am also having a problem with the 3D function, pasted artwork into editable layers, but they won't apply the 3D function collectedly to them. Disappointing as am on a tight deadline.
Hi Janine, this mockup do not use 3D functions just regullar smart objects. Which Photoshop version are you using?
There's a problem with this mockup, the 3D function in Photoshop is being remove, so to be able to use this in the latests Photoshop version go to https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/3d-faq.html What if I absolutely have to use the latest version of Photoshop along with the 3D features that are being removed?. Follow the steps and you'll be able to use it.

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.
Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.
