Design Grid Generator: 11 Logo Design Grid Templates for Adobe Illustrator

Start every logo on the right grid. Design Grid Generator is an Adobe Illustrator script that builds construction grids on a page size you choose. The grids are ready to draw on, from golden ratio circles and spirals to isometric, hexagon and wordmark grids. Pick a grid, adjust it with a live preview, and click Create. You get a document with the grid locked on its own layer and an empty Artwork layer waiting for you.

How it works

1. Run File > Scripts > Design Grid Generator.

2. Choose a grid type and adjust its settings. A live preview shows the grid on your page as you work.

3. Pick a page size, or use your current artboard.

4. Click Create. The grid goes on a locked “Logo Grid” layer, with an empty “Artwork” layer on top, ready to draw on.

11 grid types

• Golden ratio circles: circles sized by the golden ratio (φ), Fibonacci or √2. Nest them on a shared base, make them concentric, or set them side by side.

• Golden spiral: the golden rectangle divided into squares, with the spiral, its full circles and the eye lines. Rotate or mirror it.

• Root rectangles: golden, √2, √3, √5 and common ratios, with the dynamic-symmetry armature (diagonals, reciprocals and eye lines) plus a rule of thirds.

• Square grid: modules with subdivisions, drawn as lines or dots, with diagonals and an inscribed circle.

• Keyline grid: app-icon style keylines (circle, square, portrait and landscape rectangles) on a unit grid.

• Radial grid: rings with even, golden-ratio or doubling spacing, plus spokes and an optional polygon.

• Isometric grid: a 30° lattice with major lines, for isometric marks and illustrations.

• Triangle grid: a 60° lattice.

• Hexagon grid: pointy or flat-top hexagons, with optional triangulation and centre points.

• Overlapping circles: seed of life and flower of life constructions.

• Wordmark grid: baseline, x-height, cap height, ascender, descender and overshoots, plus vertical modules, an italic slant and multiple lines of text for lettering and custom type.

Key features

• Live preview of every grid as you change its settings.

• Page presets: A2 to A5, US Letter, Tabloid, business card, square sizes for social media and app icons, 1080 × 1350 and HD. Or set a custom size in mm, px, pt or inches, portrait or landscape, in RGB or CMYK.

• Several grids at once: queue them so each gets its own artboard, or overlay them on one artboard to combine, say, a keyline grid with golden ratio circles.

• Three ways to create: a new document, new artboards in the open document, or a grid on the artboard you’re using.

• Style control: colour (Illustrator’s Color Picker, hex code or presets), line weight, lighter secondary lines and dashes.

• Layer options: put the grid above or behind your artwork, lock it, make it non-printing, or draw its lines as Illustrator guides.

• Every grid is a named group with its parts in sub-groups, so you can hide or restyle the circles, diagonals or subdivisions on their own.

• Remembers your settings between sessions.

Requirements

• Adobe Illustrator [2024–2026] on macOS (Illustrator not included). Tested on macOS; not tested on Windows.

• It’s a script, so there’s nothing to install except one file. Copy it into Illustrator’s Scripts folder and restart Illustrator. You can also run it without installing, from File > Scripts > Other Script…

• Works offline and collects no data.

Licence One licence per person, for personal, commercial and client work. The grids you make and the logos you design on them are yours. Please don’t share or resell the script. Full terms are included in the download.
