What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. So, in honor of this elegant trend, I've created, Buttermilk Farmhouse - a rustic, delicate calligraphy script that can be used on everything from signage to branding to editorials. Don't be shy, give this baby a test drive and see what you can do!

Important Stuff (Definitely read me!):

Fonts CONTAIN Language Support: Please test the font before purchase to make sure your glyphs are included.
You will NEED A GLYPHS PANEL to access the alternates, as they are in blank character slots. You can find a Glyphs panel in programs like Adobe Illustrator, Inkscape or Photoshop CC.
There are NO PNG or PSD files included. The vectors can be opened with vector editing software, and have been saved as legacy versions (so, you'll be fine as far back as CS2).
Please Note this font is NOT smooth. It's made to mimic calligraphy, so the edges are textured. Unfortunately, I don't have a smooth version of Buttermilk Farmhouse.
I really don't know anything about the Silhouette Cameo or the Cricut machines. As I understand it, they're not great at cutting textured fonts, so buyer beware. If you have a question about file types, accessing alternates or printing, please contact the respective companies.
To manipulate the logos, you'll need either Illustrator or Inkscape, and to avoid any font substitution problems, just install all the font files BEFORE you open the AI/EPS files. Cool?

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

After you unzip your font product files, you will see .OTF or .TTF files. To install a font, just double click on the OTF or TTF file. For more information, check out our Font FAQ.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
