Hortus Vintage Flowers Prints
About
Hortus nitidissimis omnem per annum superbiens floribus sive Amoenissimorum florum imagines is one of the finest botanical publications of the eighteenth century. Created under the direction of the German botanist and physician Christoph Jakob Trew (1695–1769), the work showcases an extraordinary collection of flowering plants through beautifully detailed botanical illustrations.
The plates were engraved by some of the era's most accomplished artists, including Georg Dionysius Ehret, whose botanical paintings set new standards for scientific accuracy and artistic elegance. Many of the engravings were hand-colored, capturing the delicate forms, textures, and vibrant colors of each flower with remarkable precision.
Unlike simple decorative florals, these illustrations were created to document plants faithfully while celebrating their natural beauty. Every plate combines careful observation with refined composition, making the collection valuable to botanists, artists, historians, and collectors alike.
Today, Hortus remains one of the most admired works of botanical art. Its timeless illustrations continue to inspire designers, crafters, and creatives for projects ranging from wall art and stationery to digital design, scrapbooking, journals, and other artistic creations. The graceful compositions and exceptional craftsmanship have made these botanical plates enduring classics that are just as captivating today as they were nearly three centuries ago.
