About
More than 200 professional brushes & tools for graphic artists, cartoonists, animators and everyone that loves to draw with black inks, water and experimental materials. The cartoonist brushes includes from classic clear lines to the emulation of vintage line styles (Searle, Provensen, Pratt, DePatie, Breccia, etc.), from the dirtiness of the Dry Point technique to the AMAZING and never more realistic “INK WASHING” effect! and more… crosshatching, fountain pens, sumi-e, splatters, texturing, etc.. You’ll find yourself enjoying and making your job more effective with these proven tools. With the purchase of this pack you will receive all future updates to this set for free.
NOTES:
-
Most of this brushes & presets were created in Photoshop Creative Cloud using a Wacom Intuos 4 Tablet and tested also in Photoshop CS6 with a Wacom Graphire 4. So, the RECOMMENDED SETUP is Photoshop Creative Cloud (any version) + Wacom Intuos or Cintiq and the MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (not recommended at all): Photoshop CS5.5 + Wacom Graphire but do not expect -with that setup- to use the brushes in the same way I created them! The Wacom Graphire and Bamboo models has less pressure levels and the absence of some options (Eg.: there’s no TILT option for brushes). Also, you could load the presets in Photoshop CS5 but the response of some brushes will be far from ideal, even using a Wacom Cintiq. Anyway, this is a ‘work in constant progress’ so I’ll be improving this tools and giving the buyers some updates from time to time.
-
This pack was created with the idea of emulating some styles used primarily in black and white comic strips, using black ink and washes.
-
The presets (TPL files) are divided into sections, the title of each section is also the Eraser for that brush style. Eg.: If you select ##### INK WASH ##### you are activating the Eraser for that section

UPDATED TO V1.5 – April, 2018
Photoshop CC2018 (version 19.0) introduced an easier brush management and enhanced brush options so… it’s time to provide my tools also as ABR files! Before loading the AD brush sets I recommend to create a folder inside the Brushes Window (Photoshop Window Brushes) and place all my sets as sub-folders inside that ‘main’ folder. Then you could ‘import’ the brush sets and drag & drop brushes and folders as never before. Could we use the new ABR brushes in earlier versions of Photoshop? Yes, at least in CS6, but remember that in those versions there are settings which are not saved with the brushes (Flow, Opacity, Color, etc.) so it’s still recommended to use my Tool Presets instead.
Brush Stroke Smoothing
There is a new feature in PhotoShop CC 2018 that enables Smoothing (or Line stabilization) for the brush strokes and it’s enabled by default with a 10%, for my brush tools I prefer a 0% by default or in some cases I decided to turn it off completely. You could change that Smoothing percentage easily using the new PhotoShop keyboard shortcut: ALT + Numeric Keys (Eg.: ALT + 1 = 10%, ALT + 6 = 60%)
You can also turn off the magenta line that guides the stroke. Go to PS Edit Preferences Cursors and uncheck ‘Show Brush Leash While Smoothing’
Here's a not so new video with the brushes from version 1.4 in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_1ykicQfFs
Let’s clarify what is actually included with “The Cartoonist Brushes” (Aprox. 287Mb. – 218 Brushes):

- AD Cross Hatching v1.1.abr (11,4 Mb.) The 40 Cross Hatching brushes.
- AD Splatters 1.2.abr (29,2 Mb.) The 38 Splatters.

- AD Cross Hatching v1.1.tpl (12,2 Mb.) The 40 Cross Hatching brushes.

What a nice variety of brushes! Some are nice for adding texture, some are good for color washes and backgrounds, some are good for adding sharp details. Really love this set. Thanks for sharing these!

All Alex Dukal's brushes are amazing - just the best in my opinion as both a graphic designer and professional artist. I collect brushes and have way too many, but AD brushes are nearly always my go to workhorses.

Wonderful tools. You won't regret adding these to your digital workshop studio. I bought the Aquarellist Brushes set, the Pencils Garden and the Cartoonist Brushes set in one go after seeing the reviews and demos elsewhere. This review I will post on all sections because my impression is exactly the same for each set. All outstanding. Simply beautiful effects, such well crafted brushes. Having seen Mr. Dukal's work on his website and on YouTube it was obvious these were going to be tools made by someone incredibly talented in making art that combines analogue with traditional. I was not disappointed in these brushes even now in Photoshop CC 2020. The files package is very well-organized. And the accompanying reference sheets and manuals beautifully presented PDFs, lovely retro style publishing works in their own right. In my opinion he ought to charge more for these because they are superb!
