What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. However, this is a nuanced topic - with a rich history, a range of opinions, and many different approaches. For a more detailed breakdown, check out our blog on different font styles here .

What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. For a fuller, more nuanced take (or if you just want to nerd out) you can check out a whole article about this topic here: What is a Typeface and How Is it Different from a Font?

What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. Our e-pub licenses are best for ebooks and digital magazines - where you would want to embed the fonts directly into your files. Here’s a helpful walk through on font use in e-books! Creative Market also offers Worry-Free font licensing for enterprise clients. Learn more about our enterprise business offerings here . Still have questions about our licenses? Get more information about all of our font licenses here . You can also chat with our licensing assistant, Creative Mark, who can help answer questions. You can knock on his door in the bottom right corner of your desktop screen.

About

Kothang is a high contrast serif font created for elegant, fashion-forward, and refined visual projects. Its thin hairlines, bold vertical strokes, curved serifs, and graceful proportions give each letter a strong editorial presence. At the same time, soft curves keep the design warm and approachable.

Kothang blends classic serif structure with a contemporary fashion mood. The contrast between thick and thin strokes creates a clear visual rhythm, while delicate details add a sense of luxury. Moreover, distinctive lowercase forms give the typeface a recognizable voice. The rounded details in letters such as g make headlines more expressive.

Because of its tall and elegant shape, Kothang works especially well at large sizes. Therefore, it is a natural choice for brand names, campaign headlines, magazine titles, and stylish statements.

Perfect for Fashion and Beauty

Kothang is designed for creative work that needs a polished appearance. Its refined structure fits fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and luxury branding with ease. In addition, the letterforms look beautiful over photography, warm backgrounds, clean layouts, and minimal compositions.

Use Kothang for:

Fashion magazines and editorial layouts
Beauty and cosmetic branding
Luxury logos and boutique identities
Model agencies and portfolio designs
Hotel and hospitality branding
Wedding invitations and stationery
Packaging and product labels
Social media campaigns

The font can also bring a sophisticated touch to restaurant menus, café branding, personal identities, and creative presentations.

Stylish Ligatures and Details

Kothang includes a collection of ligatures that enhance selected letter combinations. These alternatives add a crafted appearance and can help create distinctive headlines, logos, and short phrases. Furthermore, the ligatures work naturally with the main letterforms, so they add personality without reducing readability.

Kothang also includes uppercase and lowercase characters, numbers, punctuation, and useful symbols. Its display-focused design is especially effective when typography is the main visual element.

A Refined Display Typeface

For the strongest result, use Kothang in large headlines where its contrast and fine details can be clearly seen. Meanwhile, simple supporting fonts can create a balanced hierarchy. Whether you are designing a fashion identity, beauty campaign, editorial cover, luxury package, or modern brand presentation, Kothang adds elegance and character.

The font includes TTF, OTF, and WOFF formats, making it suitable for print, branding, web, and digital design.
