PLUMAGE ATELIER is a complete family of Procreate brush sets designed for creating realistic plumage on birds and other feathered creatures.

This product includes:

• HEAD & EYE Feathers — for the head and the areas around the eyes and beak;

• NECK & CHEST Feathers — for the neck and chest;

• BODY Feathers — a versatile set for adding plumage to any part of the body;

• FAN Feathers — for the fan-shaped feather formations commonly seen in birds;

• FLUFF & FILOpluma — for soft down and fine, tufted feathers in close-up work;

• DRAW a PLUME — dynamic brushes for drawing individual feathers in your preferred shape and style, rather than entire feather groups.

These brushes render the feathers themselves rather than the shadows around them, so they are designed to be used in lighter tones over a darker base._ The base does not have to be black or particularly dark. For pale plumage, simply choose a color close to the natural shadow or midtone beneath the feather vanes. The visible parts of this base will then create depth and natural shading between overlapping feathers._

Most brushes are arranged in visually distinct groups of four by function. The arrows in each brush name indicate the stroke direction for a bird in a conventional upright orientation:

• LEFT Side ↓ — a brush for the left-side edges of a body;

• RIGHT Side ↓ — a brush for the right-side edges of a body;

• WITH Flow ↓ — a main fill brush used along the direction of feather growth;

• CROSS Flow → — a central fill brush used across the direction of feather growth.

Some groups may include more than one brush of a particular type. A few brushes follow a different structure, primarily those in the WING & TAIL set and the dynamic DRAW a PLUME collection.

The brushes streamline the process, while careful layering, cast shadows, and attention to form bring the plumage to life._ Use intermediate layers, add cast shadows beneath overlapping groups of feathers, and consider light, shadow, and underlying form.
