What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. BOLONAT INK SVG OTF FONT! Includes Multiple Diacritics and Punctuation.

Based on the original hand drawn glyphs I did for a restaurant project in NYC, this new version has been completely re-drawn and painted in ink, scanned, and edited before being imported into a font program to create the SVG OTF file.

Pre-kerned and spaced, each glyph is user ready with a few characters needing kerning depending on end user preference. Read below for tips on how to use the SVG file.

HAND - A solid version of the original watercolor glyphs with Extended Diacritics and Punctuation. (Sold separately)

INK - An SVG re-worked version of the original watercolor glyphs with Extended Diacritics and Punctuation. (Included)

REDUX - Includes the above OTF fonts with extended Diacritics and Punctuation plus the original White EPS and Blue EPS water color glyphs. (Sold Separately)

VECTOR - The original Ink art work which led to the creation of Bolonat font. Included is the "White" version and original "Blue" ink version. (Sold separately)

USING THE SVG FONT FILE

Drag the font file into your font program of choice.
Open Illustrator or Photoshop and type as usual changing the font in the Character Window.
To change colors simply Rasterize your type and go to the “Adjust Color Balance” window. (SUGGESTION: Save a version with your live type in case you need to go back and make copy corrections).

USING TRANSPARENCY & EFFECTS

Play with transparencies and effects to get the most out of Bolonat Ink. Here are a few tips:

The file is in “black” in mode - perfect for darker colors. Black Ink mode looks best when effects such as Multiply are used. This way it will give the effect of water color ink on any substrate.
“Invert Colors” so the Black Ink mode changes to “White Ink” mode. This version works best when “Screen” effect has been applied. White Ink mode works well with lighter or brighter colors.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

After you unzip your font product files, you will see .OTF or .TTF files. To install a font, just double click on the OTF or TTF file. For more information, check out our Font FAQ.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
