What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. New Tropical Design Studio had teamed up with the talented LA lettering artist Laura Bennet to create Mattina-Sera. A beautiful hand made opentype SVG font with loads of texture and detail.

Opentype SVG is an entirely new font format that functions similarly to standard fonts. The big difference is that this new format allows font designers to incorporate as much detail as we like into our creations by using high-resolution bitmap images for the letters as opposed to traditional vector. This means the beautiful hand painted letters of Mattina-Sera can contain lots of real texture.

IMPORTANT READ THIS Opentype SVG Fonts require the latest versions of Photoshop CC or Illustrator CC to work. Opentype SVG fonts also work with the latest version of Procreate. Using SVG Fonts is much more user friendly in Photoshop.

Warning: These fonts have lots of detail so they use up much more memory than a regular OTF font. Make sure you don’t have too many PSD files or other software open at the same time and turn off auto fill place holder text if you software is struggling.

The Solid version of the font has OTF and Web font versions and can be used in any software.

Great Font. Easy to use and fun. Note for others saying you can't change the color... if using Illustrator your document needs to be in RGB not CMYK to allow for the transparency mask to work.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

After you unzip your font product files, you will see .OTF or .TTF files. To install a font, just double click on the OTF or TTF file. For more information, check out our Font FAQ.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
