What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. However, this is a nuanced topic - with a rich history, a range of opinions, and many different approaches. For a more detailed breakdown, check out our blog on different font styles here .

What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. For a fuller, more nuanced take (or if you just want to nerd out) you can check out a whole article about this topic here: What is a Typeface and How Is it Different from a Font?

What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. Our e-pub licenses are best for ebooks and digital magazines - where you would want to embed the fonts directly into your files. Here’s a helpful walk through on font use in e-books! Creative Market also offers Worry-Free font licensing for enterprise clients. Learn more about our enterprise business offerings here . Still have questions about our licenses? Get more information about all of our font licenses here . You can also chat with our licensing assistant, Creative Mark, who can help answer questions. You can knock on his door in the bottom right corner of your desktop screen.

About

Creatoon is a modern serif font with ligatures created for designers who want a bold, elegant, and stylish display typeface. Its strong contrast gives every word a refined look, while its flowing details add a touch of character. As a result, the font feels both classic and fresh.

The design uses thick main strokes and fine hairlines to create a clear visual rhythm. Therefore, large headlines look sharp, clean, and full of style. At the same time, the curved lowercase forms bring a softer feel to names and short phrases. This balance makes Creatoon a useful choice for many creative projects.

Why Creatoon stands out

High-contrast modern serif design
Elegant uppercase and lowercase letters
Distinctive decorative ligatures
Refined curves and sharp serif details
Stylish display letterforms
Numbers and punctuation included
Strong look for large headlines
Great fit for premium visual projects

Moreover, the ligature set gives Creatoon a custom feel without losing its clean structure. Selected letter pairs join together with smooth and clever shapes. Consequently, simple words can gain a more personal and crafted appearance.

Creatoon works especially well for fashion branding, beauty logos, restaurant branding, editorial layouts, luxury packaging, interior design, wedding stationery, and lifestyle projects. It can also add a polished look to magazine titles, social media graphics, product labels, menus, posters, and creative presentations.

For branding, the font can make a name feel confident and memorable. Likewise, its elegant shapes can help create a premium mood for beauty and fashion campaigns. For editorial work, the strong contrast gives headlines a clear visual focus. Meanwhile, the ligatures add extra detail when you want a more distinctive result.

The font also performs well when paired with a simple sans serif. Use Creatoon for the main title, then choose a clean sans serif for smaller text. This approach creates contrast while keeping the overall layout easy to read.

Overall, Creatoon brings modern serif typography, elegant contrast, and artistic ligatures into one versatile display font. Whether you are creating a fashion identity, restaurant logo, beauty campaign, or editorial design, it can give your work a stylish and professional finish.
