What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. However, this is a nuanced topic - with a rich history, a range of opinions, and many different approaches. For a more detailed breakdown, check out our blog on different font styles here .

What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. For a fuller, more nuanced take (or if you just want to nerd out) you can check out a whole article about this topic here: What is a Typeface and How Is it Different from a Font?

What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. Our e-pub licenses are best for ebooks and digital magazines - where you would want to embed the fonts directly into your files. Here’s a helpful walk through on font use in e-books! Creative Market also offers Worry-Free font licensing for enterprise clients. Learn more about our enterprise business offerings here . Still have questions about our licenses? Get more information about all of our font licenses here . You can also chat with our licensing assistant, Creative Mark, who can help answer questions. You can knock on his door in the bottom right corner of your desktop screen.

About

Groah is an elegant high contrast serif font made for refined and modern design. It blends very thin strokes with strong vertical lines. As a result, each letter feels light, graceful, and fashion-led. The tall forms also give headlines a clean and premium look.

Elegant Fashion Serif Style

Groah has a classic display style with a fresh fashion mood. Its sharp contrast creates a clear difference between thick and thin strokes. Meanwhile, smooth curves add a soft and stylish touch. Therefore, the font feels both bold and delicate at once.

The uppercase letters work especially well for large headlines. They create a wide, airy look that suits clean layouts. In addition, the lowercase set adds personality through its curved shapes. Some letters also feature elegant alternate forms and ligatures. These details can make short words and brand names more distinctive.

Fashion Branding and Luxury Design

Groah is a strong choice for fashion branding and luxury projects. Use it for clothing labels, beauty brands, jewelry, and boutique identities. Likewise, it works well for hotel branding, editorial covers, and premium packaging. It can also bring a polished feel to restaurant menus and lifestyle campaigns.

Because of its thin lines, Groah works best at medium and large sizes. Large display text helps every curve stay clear and easy to enjoy. Furthermore, its simple structure pairs well with clean sans serif fonts. This pairing creates contrast between expressive headlines and simple supporting text.

Creative Uses

Use Groah for logos, posters, magazine titles, social media graphics, invitations, and product labels. It is also suitable for website headers and fashion lookbooks. Moreover, alternate characters and ligatures give designers more freedom. They can help create a custom and memorable wordmark.

Key features include:

High contrast serif style
Elegant and refined letterforms
Very thin hairline strokes
Strong vertical stems
Fashion-focused display character
Stylish curves and smooth shapes
Elegant ligatures and alternate forms
Excellent logo and wordmark potential
Ideal for editorial and luxury layouts

Overall, Groah brings a graceful voice to modern typography. It feels sophisticated without becoming too formal. At the same time, its fine details add charm and visual interest. Therefore, Groah is an excellent choice for designers seeking an elegant serif font with strong fashion appeal.
