What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. Kingston has been designed to fit a wide range of projects from urban style to classic branding with a full alternative characters set to completely change the look of your design.

Kingston also includes a set of 52 hand-drawn elements that will add a nice finishing touch to your Kingston text.

You can use it for business branding, Instagram quotes, blog headers, fashion apparel, stationery and more...

Please note that Kingston includes both standard and alternates alphabets, while Kingston Alt only includes the alternate version.

Kingston includes:

Kingston • A dry brush script font with uppercase and lowercase characters, alternative alphabet, ligatures, numerals and punctuation.
Kingston Alt • The alternative set (lowercase and uppercase) of Kingston as standard set – (all others glyphs remain the same as Kingston.oft)
Kingston Extras • A full set of brushed elements : 33 hand-drawn swashes, 4 doodles and 14 paint drips and splatters.

How to use Kingston Extras

To use the Extras characters simply install the Kingston Extras.otf file, select it from your font menu and type any letter from uppercase A to lowercase z to have a swash or a paint splat. You can refer to the Kingston Extras Map Character included in the folder to see which letter correspond to which element.

Multilingual support

Kingston supports multilingual characters for western, central and south-east European languages. Feel free to message me if you're unsure of any language support.

Kingston is compatible with any software that can read a standard font, though alternates and ligatures require a software that is Opentype capable. Most programs now are compatible with Opentype features.
Fonts are provided in OTF and TTF.
Sans serif font used for the previews is Montauk

How do I contact support?: For questions about this product, message the Shop Owner via their shop profile. For all other questions, like licensing or billing, visit our Help Center.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

After you unzip your font product files, you will see .OTF or .TTF files. To install a font, just double click on the OTF or TTF file. For more information, check out our Font FAQ.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
