ST-UrbanRoots graffiti tag
About
ST-UrbanRoots is a graffiti tag font duo built as a complementary type system rather than two standalone fonts. The pair combines two distinct writing traditions from street culture, allowing them to interact, contrast, and reinforce each other within the same composition.
The first style, Pisação, draws inspiration from the iconic graffiti handstyles of Latin America. Influenced by the distinctive vertical rhythm and sharp angular construction of Brazilian pixação, it delivers an aggressive, condensed "urban gothic" aesthetic.
The second style, Tagger, represents a more classic graffiti tagging handstyle. Its flowing connections, dynamic stroke movement, and expressive rhythm make it a natural companion to Pisação, adding expressive disbalance to the family. Because of its complex interconnected forms, Tagger is intended for designers who are comfortable with manual spacing adjustments. Automatic kerning cannot always resolve the intricate relationships between glyphs, so manual kerning is strongly recommended to achieve the best visual results.
In both fonts, uppercase and lowercase function as two stylistic character sets rather than traditional case variants. They can be freely mixed to create custom lettering, richer compositions, and more authentic hand-drawn graffiti aesthetics.
ST-UrbanRoots includes Extended Latin and Cyrillic, numerals, punctuation, making it suitable for a wide range of international projects.
Designed primarily as a display typeface, ST-UrbanRoots is not intended for long passages of text. Instead, it excels in logos, branding, album covers, posters, apparel, packaging, editorial headlines, urban-inspired graphics, and any project that demands the raw energy and expressive character of authentic graffiti culture.
