What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. The Ballpoint font was created to look as close to a natural handwritten script as possible by including lowercase alternates, lowercase swash, ligature and underlines. Mix and match lowercase regular with several lowercase alternatives to get your new ligature. Perfect for any awesome projects that need hand writing taste.

With built in Opentype features, this script comes to life as if you were writing it yourself.

It's highly recommended to use it in opentype capable software - there are plenty out there nowadays as technology catches up with design ... Other than Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign, many standard simple programs now come with Opentype capabilities - even the most basic ones such as Apple's Text Edit, Pages, Keynote, iBooks Author, etc. Even Word has found ways to incorporate it.

I have only tried The Ballpoint in Word so far, and I have not tried out any of the features, but so far I think it is a very nice font. It has a scribbly, dashed off look that I like and is close to looking like real handwriting. I would consider it about 98% legible, which is a pretty good percentage, though it may be that in Photoshop I can work with it a little more. One of my test words to try out a new font is "little", to see how the font handles multiple t's combined with an i and l. I would have to brush up on Word to find the glyphs, so I just opened Photoshop and I was able to easily space it and use the glyphs to get a nice look of the word. If I had to fuss about anything, it would be the lower case s, as in a block of writing it is mistakeable for a g. Other than that, I really like this font and its look on a page of typing.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text.
