The festive season is finally here, and we’re excited to bring you another edition of our “Design It Yourself” series at Creative Market! This time, we have a fun tutorial for all of your seasonal designs. Join us as we guide you through the steps to create a beautiful wintery poster that will surely draw a crowd to your market. Let’s get creative together!
Step-by-Step Tutorial
1. Gather your assets
You’ll need a few building blocks before you start designing your poster. All of these asset packs are available on Creative Market, so download them all before you get started:
Poster 1
Thread Starter by Colllab Studio for a festive font that adds a touch of elegance to your main logo
Christmas Graphics Pack by MaryArt for 40 hand-drawn elements to insert a little “ho ho ho” into your poster design
Poster 2
Molra Beauty by HansCo Studio gives you another attractive font if you want to go down a more traditional route
Christmas Essentials by alenaganzhela for a fun little flurry of cutesy Christmas elements
2. Set up your Adobe Illustrator artboard
Set up your file to match the poster size you’re going for. In this case, we’re designing a tabloid-sized poster (11 x 17 inches). Add bleed if you’re planning on having elements that go beyond the edges of the page. Your printer will be able to recommend a bleed setting that works; in our case, we’re using 0.125 inches on all four sides.
3. Add a title
Choose a bold title to add to your canvas. We went with “Winter Creative Market”. Use the Thread Starter or Molra Beauty fonts linked above to make your title stand out. When you select individual letterforms, Adobe Illustrator will pull up alternates that allow you to spice up your text.
4. Add event details
Type some basic details for your upcoming market underneath your bold title. We recommend adding text fields like locations, times, and dates – key event details your customers need to know. A little tweaking with fonts and formatting is recommended here to make the key details easy to catch at a glance.
5. Get creative with your assets
You have the Christmas Essentials and Christmas Graphics Pack downloaded. Here’s where you use them. Add the elements, along with any icons or textures you like, that will give your poster that wintery feel. I like to place a few squares with color swatches so they act as a palette to pull from when experimenting with hues.
6. Export Your Poster
Adobe Illustrator makes this simple enough with its exporting options. We recommend exporting your new poster as a high-quality PDF file ready for print, though a JPEG also works for digital posters.
