Last week we introduced you all to Sarah, our new Operations Manager. Well this week we’re excited to introduce you to another new member of the team, Chris Winn! Chris joins us all the way from South Carolina and he’s one of two recent additions to our development team. He brings with him a great sense of humor and a passion for solving big problems, so needless to say he fits right in. Please join us in welcoming Chris to the Creative Market family!
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do for Creative Market.
I am married to a seriously talented photographer and have a little daughter named Hadley. I enjoy programming and solving technical challenges, but I can also fall for a beautiful font. I think that makes me a good fit here. I do engineering work at Creative Market so if you have an issue, or need help setting up a printer, I am a good resource.
What were you doing before you joined the team and how did you and Creative Market “find each other”?
I ran a small shop that focused on full stack development. I heard about Creative Market early on when it was just a splash page. After launch, I needed some art for a project and fell in love with the buying process. I thought, “These people get it.” I heard about an opportunity to join the team, got in touch, and here we are.
What’s your workstation like? Do you have any tools/software/gadgets you can’t live without?
Great headphones are important to me. Music is my way to maintain focus. I’ve also learned a lot about optimal lighting conditions. It’s really important to take care of your eyes. It will creep up on you so be proactive about your work environment.

Do you have any go-to music when you’re working?
I listen to stations on Rdio or fall back to two playlists I’ve crafted. My mix for development tends toward songs without lyrics or at least lyrics that are completely unintelligible to my ears. It’s Radiohead, Sigur Rós, LCD Soundsystem, or Ratatat. I also keep a guilty pleasures playlist called “These Songs Happened.” The contents of this playlist will remain secret.
What are some of the projects you’re currently working on?
Right now I am really focused on our backend payments system. We want to make sure the buying experience on Creative Market is wonderful. It’s our job to sweat the details so our sellers and their customers don’t have to.
What’s your favorite shop in the marketplace?
I think the world of Nicole LaRue and her illustrations. Her work has a great charm to it and she has really found her style. It’s really fun to see how much diversity there is in our marketplace.
Any parting words of wisdom for our readers?
Focus on a few things that you do very well and don’t be afraid to set other things aside. Remember there is life away from work. Also it’s important every so often to pat a bulldog on the head.
