PINE WOOD CUTS | THE INTRODUCTION
We spent over 20 hours cutting, inking, printing, and scanning to create this exhaustive compilation of 100% original pine wood cut impressions, delivered in 10 different and independently valuable formats.
PINE WOOD CUTS | THE BASICS
As we’ve mentioned before, we are always looking for opportunities to create resources that haven’t been fully explored by others or in many cases that simply haven’t even been done yet. Most of the time, we make resources out of necessity for ourselves and simply want to share our work with others who may be looking for the same kind of solutions we were.
After searching far and wide on the expanses of the internet, we couldn’t find a single source for truly diverse, hi-res, and versatile woodgrain textures like what we’ve made. We have created a truly exhaustive arsenal of pine woodcut textures: over 100 unique cuts of all sizes and angles with just shy of 600 different inked variations between them.
PINE WOOD CUTS | THE PROCESS
Sometimes it’s easy to find the general idea of what you’re looking for but not the actual specifics For instance, finding a unique woodgrain that you would like to use is one thing, but having that in a royalty-free, hi-res and/or even scalable file format is rare, rarer still to have the same grain in multiple options with varying styles.
We started by making around 100 different cuts in varying angles into different pieces of pine. After we made our cuts, we applied a viscous black pigment to the areas we wanted to transfer.
The first imprint was always the darkest and many times the ink would bleed into itself, which created a much more grungy and thick texture. We would imprint the same piece several times after that applying varying amounts of pressure so as to get varying amounts of detail and texture.
Some impressions would blotch, some would blur, and of course some would come out immaculately detailed and precise. From messy to meticulous, we’ve included all of these into this resource in order to accommodate for all tastes and styles.
