Rollsign Gothic
About
The original concept for this typeface was inspired by the rollsigns commonly seen on buses and trains—particularly those hand-drawn signs from the pre-digital era. The idea of creating a typeface based on these signs had been in the works for about a decade, but when it came time to actually start designing, the process proved to be more challenging than expected. Over the years, however, the direction and design language gradually became clearer.
To reflect the nature of rollsigns, which required a large amount of text to fit into a limited space, the typeface adopts a tall, narrow rectangular proportion as its structural foundation. It also preserves the utilitarian and handcrafted feel of the original signage, while emphasizing clarity and strength—qualities essential for legibility in such applications.
Of course, hand-rendered rollsigns are no longer in use today. Yet this typeface is designed for a wide range of contemporary applications, from posters and video titles to product packaging. It’s a typeface that commands attention, strongly appealing to viewers and consumers alike while effectively communicating the character and appeal of the product it represents.
The type family consists of seven weights, each with a corresponding italic, and supports a wide range of Latin-based languages.
