Activate! - blocky handwritten font
About
This typeface is perfect for adding texture with sass if you have something to say.
The coarse edges really shine when the letters fill the page, so don’t be afraid to amp up that font size. Although this is a low-contrast display font, the subtly thinner bowls can allow for longer formats up to a paragraph or two.
Type Specimens Each specimen has been designed by hand with a chisel tip marker, and each stroke was made with pressurized purpose.
Typography Talk The chisel tip pen was held with the tip at a 180-degree angle and wrist in a locked position on the downstrokes to create thick stems. The chisel tip was then rotated to 90-degrees to create thick crossbars. (“I like my crossbars THICC.” The only exception to this approach is the U.S. dollar glyph, which does have a thinner stem.) Together, this calligraphic approach creates a sort of reverse stroke, resulting in a consistently thick weight and low contrast throughout the typeface, save for the subtle thinner strokes at the shoulders of the lowercase h, m, and n or the bowls of the uppercase U and uppercase B.
The misalignment of crossbars and cross strokes with their stems creates a stylishly haphazard and handmade touch.
Awards No big deal/whatevskies, but this font won an American Graphic Design Award by GDUSA and an Honorable Mention in the 2023 Creative Communication Award by C2A.
Font Infusions was also a winner of the National ACE AAPISTRONG Proudly Unstoppable Fund.
Thank you for supporting a BIPOC, Filipino American, and AANHPI-owned font foundry!
