What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. Treadstone is a family of EIGHT fonts that give a modern twist on a classic look. This font family includes versions with rounded edges, rough edges and grunge effects, each of which has its own character and charm. Treadstone works great for headlines, titles and logos.

Here's everything you get with the Treadstone Font Family:

Treadstone Regular - This is the classic version. Regular has sharp edges and perfect weighting and spacing. Great for simple, timeless branding

Treadstone Rounded - This version is slightly thicker, which imperfect rounded edges. This version is a little easier on the eyes and feels a little more organic without feeling out of place when stacked with sharp edges fonts.

Treadstone Rough - The rough version has a lot of character and detail. It is slightly thinner than the regular version. Great for headlines and vintage designs.

Treadstone Grunge - For those who are really looking for grime and grit, we've added a grunge version. Great for that stamped letterpress look.

Treadstone Bold - This version is a little louder than the classic regular. It's great for headers, especially paired with 'regular' as a subheader choice.

Treadstone Bold Rounded - The thickest of the bunch. This is made to grab peoples attention without being too harsh.

Treadstone Bold Rough - Slightly thinner than Bold, the 'Bold Rough' version has a weighting that sits nicely between 'Bold' and 'Regular'. Its edges give it a bit of a letterpress feel. Great for vintage works and headlines.

Treadstone Bold Grunge - Loud and gritty! The Bold Grunge version has loads of detail.

Language Support - French, Spanish, English, Catalan, Galician, Basque, Portuguese, Italian, Albanian, Afrikaans, Dutch, German, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Faroese, Icelandic, Irish and Scottish.

OTF/TTF - Each version of the font family comes in both .TTF and .OTF formats, for a total of 16 font files.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

After you unzip your font product files, you will see .OTF or .TTF files. To install a font, just double click on the OTF or TTF file. For more information, check out our Font FAQ.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
