What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. What's included:

Logo Templates - We've included eighteen logo templates for you to use. Just load them up in Adobe Illustrator, and start customizing. Note that you need Illustrator CS2 (or higher) to load these templates. These templates are a great way to see how versatile these fonts are, and you can deconstruct them to get a better idea of how designers achieve certain effects for their logos.

Mystic Font Family - The Mystic Font Family is an extremely versatile script font. Not only do you get all the typical characters (plus a good amount of language support), but you get many alternate characters as well. For example, if you don't like how the lowercase y balances in your design, that's fine! You have 6 other options to choose from with loads of flair. Mystic comes in three versions: Regular, Light and Grunge.

Blatchford Font Family - This all caps font family complements the Mystic font with its serif additions. This family contains a nine different versions! If you're going for a rustic look, try out the Worn versions of the font. Looking for even more of a weathered, textured look? Try out the Grunge versions, or the very unique Fabric versions (my personal favorite).

Palestone Font Family - We couldn't have vintage effects without having a western style font now could we? Palestone comes in 8 different versions, and is great for when you're looking for something a little more decorative / ornate. The Grunge Shadow version is especially nice for striking bold titles.

Bonus Tips - Not sure how to use some of the special features for fonts like Mystic? I've put together some instructions for getting the most out of your fonts for both Illustrator and Photoshop. This covers how to use Stylistic Alternates, Alternate Ligatures, Contextual/Terminal Ligatures and how to modify the width between characters.

Language Support - We've added in a great deal of extra characters to support many different languages.

Font Formats - All fonts are available in both OTF and TTF formats. OTF format is recommended for the Mystic font family to load all the special features.

Commercial/Extended License - This is in your design arsenal for life! Use on end products for sale is permitted with the standard license.

Requirements - The fonts will work with any program designed to load in user fonts. The Discretionary Ligatures and Alternate Ligatures for the Mystic font will require more sophisticated programs such as Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign. The templates are designed to work in Adobe Illustrator CS2 and above. They may work on earlier versions, but no testing has been done on versions prior to CS2.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

After you unzip your font product files, you will see .OTF or .TTF files. To install a font, just double click on the OTF or TTF file. For more information, check out our Font FAQ.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
