Woodcut Dropcaps
About the Product
For the first time, "De claris mulieribus whitch" means "About Famous Women" was printed in Latin in the German city of Ulm in the printing house of Johann Zeiner in 1473.
Woodcut engravings open chapters: organize the text and set the structure of the book. In a copy from my collection, they are hand—painted in watercolor - this is a rarity, not all surviving editions are made in color.
All illustrations appeared in the book carry an important semantic load, help to understand and remember the plot, and do not serve only as decoration. For example, the letter "S" in the form of a tempting serpent depicts the scene of the fall of Adam and Eve.
I'm happy to present to you my version of this amazing dropcaps set.
