What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. REQUIREMENTS Color bitmap fonts are still relatively new technology. Not all applications support them yet, but these Adobe apps offer official support:

Photoshop CC 2017+ Illustrator CC 2018+ InDesign CC 2019+

Mac OS 10.14 and newer supports color bitmap fonts in most native applications (FontBook, Pages, Keynote, etc.).

Windows does not—except within the Adobe apps as noted above.

Bottom line: As much as I’d love to know the ins and outs of every application and operating system, alas, I’m a mere mortal. When in doubt, do your own research before purchasing.

These are super cute but alas I also did not read the fine print and don’t have photoshop. In there you can adjust some of the colors, kerning, direction, etc. so if you have your adobe products get this super cute font and adjust as needed!

I really should have read all of the details before purchasing this $14 font. My school computer not longer supports ADOBE and we can't install programs like the Photoshop program seen in the informational video. It does come with the PNG files for each letter, but the coloring printed very dark and dull, even after printing on a high quality setting and trying to edit using the minimal features we have access to on our computers. This font is adorable and I was really looking forward to being able to use it for my Valentine's Bulletin Board. Please read the details before purchasing! This was my error and sadly, a costly one.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

After you unzip your font product files, you will see .OTF or .TTF files. To install a font, just double click on the OTF or TTF file. For more information, check out our Font FAQ.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
