General FAQ

Can I use a purchased item in a freelance project or contract work for a client?

Yes. If the client intends to sell these end products, you will need to purchase an Extended License V1. If you create the end product for a client, your rights to purchased items are transferred from you to your client.

How many times can I use a purchased item?

Purchased items may be used in a single project (which may contain multiple end products under a single project umbrella). For example, a purchased graphic may be used in multiple variations of a poster under one advertising project. But this graphic may not be used in two different logos for two different client projects.

One exception to the single project limit: all installable items may only be installed on a single computer, but can be used to generate content for multiple projects. This means that each unique user of the installable item requires their own license in order to install it on their computer and use it to create content in any projects. Also, if you intend to use the Font, etc. in an end product for sale each user will need an Extended License V1.

What are considered "Installable Items"?

Items that are installed on your computer and used to generate new end products are considered Installable Items. This includes all items found in the Fonts and Add-Ons categories.

Is there any limit to the number of times (impressions) my end product can be distributed?

There's no limit to the number of impressions or times you can distribute the products you create, whether it's via page views, downloads, or physical copies. If you intend to sell your product, there is still no limit to the number of times it can be resold, but you will need to purchase an Extended License V1.

Can I redistribute items I've purchased?

No, items purchased are for your use only. You may not include the original purchased items (or source files) in any distributed end products.

Can I use an item in a new end product, design or medium?

Yes. You're fine as long as the item(s) are not used alone, but instead are elements or parts of a new design, regardless of how much the item has been modified or how much of the new design it makes up.

Do I have to credit the original designer of a product when I use it?

No, but that sure is a nice thing to do! All products are royalty-free.

How much does an Extended License V1 cost?

Shop owners set their own prices for Extended Licenses, though we recommend 10x the price of the same item under a Standard License V1.

Can I buy an Extended License V1 for products already purchased?

Yes. At any time, you can go to that item's product page and buy an Extended License V1 in the receipt area. You may not use a purchased item in an end product for sale until you have purchased an Extended License V1.

How are Free Goods and Bundles licensed?

All items offered as Free Goods or in Bundles are sold under the Standard License V1. If you'd like to buy an Extended License V1 for any of these items, visit the corresponding product page. You can also find the product page from your purchases list.

What happened to the SimpleLicense?

The SimpleLicense was our sitewide license before December 10, 2015 when it was replaced by the Standard License V1 and Extended License V1. All items purchased before this date are licensed under the SimpleLicense, while all items purchased after are licensed under the new Standard License V1 or Extended License V1.

Are shop owners allowed to sell their products using custom licenses they create?

No. All items on Creative Market are sold under our Standard License V1 (except for some categories of themes requiring a GPL license). If the Standard License V1 doesn't quite cover your needs, you can buy an Extended License V1 for any of the products on the site.

Note: All products sold before December 10, 2015 were sold under our prior SimpleLicense.

Photos FAQ

How many impressions are allowed per photo?

There is no limit to the number of impressions allowed for photos purchased on Creative Market.

Templates FAQ

Can I trademark a design I create using marketplace items such as a logo?

You may not register as a trademark the Item or the end product incorporating the Item — not even logos. If you use the Item to create a logo for yourself or a client, keep in mind that third parties can use the Item too, even in another logo.

Can I convert a purchased website template into an HTML website or theme for myself or a client?

Yes, the Standard License V1 covers this usage.

Can I convert a purchased website template into a theme to sell or distribute (even for free)?

No.

Themes FAQ

Are all WordPress themes sold under the GNU General Public License (GPL)?

Yes. Because WordPress is distributed under a GPL license, all derivative works (including WordPress themes) must also be distributed under the same license.

What uses does the GNU General Public License (GPL) cover?

To learn more about all the terms of the GPL license, you can read the full text here.

Can I resell a WordPress theme I did not create?

This is technically allowed under the GNU General Public License (GPL), however we do not allow it on Creative Market as we only want to offer original, unique items to our community.

Fonts FAQ

Can I use a font in a website, app, or eBook?

Yes, webfonts and other embedded font types are permitted under our Standard License V1. You do not need to purchase separate desktop vs. web licenses — it's all included.

Add-Ons FAQ

What items are defined as Add-Ons?

Add-Ons include installable items such as Actions, Brushes, Gradients, Layer Styles, Palettes, Plug-Ins and Shapes.

What is a "seat?"

A single Standard License V1 for an Add-On or tool covers one user/computer, which we call a seat. Therefore all such items may only be installed on a single computer but can be used to generate content for multiple projects. This means that each unique user of the installable item requires their own license of the purchased item in order to install it on their computer and use it to create content in any projects. Also, if you intend to use the Font, etc. in an end product for sale each user/seat will need an Extended License V1.

3D FAQ

Can I 3D print items I've purchased?

Can I use 3D items to create static images?

Yes.

Can I modify assets I've purchased?

Yes.
