What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. About

Boston Straight Roman is a vintage display serif inspired by letterforms found in a 19th-century hand-lettering book.

What first caught my attention was the unusual construction of the letters, dramatic contrasts between thick and thin strokes, sharp serifs, narrow proportions, and small details that feel distinctly different from contemporary type. I wanted to preserve that old-world character while developing the idea into a font that could be used in modern design.

The result is Boston Straight Roman: an elegant, slightly theatrical serif with the spirit of antique hand lettering and printed ephemera.

Its personality naturally brings to mind old newspaper mastheads, hand-painted advertisements, vintage baseball programs, shop signs, book covers, packaging, and editorial typography. Some characters are intentionally more distinctive than others, giving words an irregular rhythm and personality that feels closer to historical lettering than a perfectly neutral modern serif.

The uppercase is bold, tall, and architectural, making it especially beautiful for oversized headlines, logos, posters, and tightly composed typography. The lowercase carries the same character into smaller titles, quotations, editorial details, and supporting text.

Rather than trying to make the original historical influence feel completely modern, I wanted to keep some of its strangeness, elegance, and charm.

Boston Straight Roman works best when it is allowed to be noticed, set large, given space, or used as the central element of a design.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
