Old Piano | Hand Crafted Font

Old Piano is a hand-crafted display typeface inspired by old upright pianos, carved wooden furniture, saloon interiors, country music ephemera and vintage American print.

Tall, lean and deliberately imperfect, Old Piano is built from heavy slabs, narrow bodies, bulbous curves, pinched waists, oversized feet and strange carved details. Some letters feel architectural, while others look almost like pieces of old furniture — turned, carved and assembled by hand.

The result feels a little like an old upright piano sitting in the corner of a saloon or parlour: sturdy, decorative, slightly battered and full of character.

Rather than smoothing everything into a perfectly consistent digital alphabet, Old Piano keeps the awkwardness and irregularity of its hand-drawn beginnings. Proportions shift, feet change shape, curves wobble and individual characters don't always agree on the rules.

THREE SETS OF LETTERFORMS

Old Piano includes three complete sets of A–Z letterforms — mapped across the lowercase, uppercase and alternate characters.

Mix and match them throughout your words to introduce variation, change repeated letters and create typography that feels less uniform and more like something assembled from individual pieces of old type.

A SISTER TO SHOWBILL

Old Piano is the sister typeface to Showbill and intentionally shares the same underlying hand-drawn letter skeleton.

Where Showbill is squat, theatrical and decorated with tiny stars, Old Piano takes those familiar foundations and reworks them into taller, leaner and more pared-back forms, allowing the carved construction and unusual proportions of the letters to take centre stage.

The two fonts can be used completely independently, or paired together as companion faces when you want different levels of decoration while maintaining a shared character.

Think of them as two pieces from the same room: Showbill is the handbill announcing tonight's entertainment; Old Piano is the carved upright sitting inside.
