What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. It's smooth, it's cute, it's fun, and it's mighty tasty: it's Garlic Butter! A mixed-case font with lots of combination possibilities.

Garlic Butter is a pair of fonts perfect for all of your fun designs. The main font file comes with the usual characters (A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and tons of punctuation), as well asover 300 accented characters to support most Latin-based languages. Plus, it comes with over 150 ligatures and alternate letters!

You also get the Garlic Butter Doodads file, full of swirls, swashes, icons, arrow heads and tails, catchwords, and other decorative items. They were all created with the same brush, and are all sized the same as the Garlic Butter letters, so you can be assured they'll work great together!

Garlic Butter features:

15 uppercase double-letter ligatures
15 lowercase double-letter ligatures
14 short catchwords (located in the Unicode PUA)
Over 120 extra 2-, 3-, and 4-letter ligatures
Over 300 extended Latin characters for language support
Fully PUA-encoded for full access to all characters

Note: the multi-letter ligatures are coded into the font. If your software naturally uses ligatures (Photoshop CC, Illustrator, InDesign, Inkscape, and many more), they'll automatically show up as you type. Some programs (such as Microsoft Word) require you to turn on ligatures (in Word: Font Advanced OpenType Features).

Since this font is PUA-encoded, you can also open it up in Font Book (Mac) or Character Map (PC) and copy/paste the ligatures and alternates into most other software. If the ligature feature is important to you, please ensure your software of choice works with them before purchasing.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

After you unzip your font product files, you will see .OTF or .TTF files. To install a font, just double click on the OTF or TTF file. For more information, check out our Font FAQ.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
