BM Flyer Font
About
I’ve always said one of the better things about being a Graphic Designer is spending afternoons browsing a new museum is part of the job. One day, a visit to a small history museum in Richmond, Indiana paid off well. I was admiring the numbers painted underneath the wings of a 1929 Davis D-1 airplane and found an idea for a new set of numerals— and now a full font. They were block letters, fairly standard in construction and similar to the likes of United. What was interesting about these though is the inside corners were rounded and the “2” had a long diagonal line I had not seen on block numbers before. With only a few numbers and letters to work with, I set out to re-create those and complete the full alphabet. The result is BM-Flyer.
