What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. About

Kanto script is a sophisticated typeface with lots of energy. This makes it perfect for many projects! Kanto is meant to shine so works best in logo design, package and apparel design, headlines and much more. With it's high legibility, it can even work in larger bodies of copy. As always, I create my typefaces using vector software so you don't have to worry about those pesky pixels limiting how large you can scale the type!

Kanto includes a variety of ligatures that can add even more life to your piece. This typeface also comes with Western European characters to allow for a broader use.

So what's all included?

Three file types: OTF Files TTF Files WOFF Files (web)

With multiple font formats, you'll be sure to have something that works depending on the software you use (Adobe, Microsoft, etc). OTF is the preferred version as it supports more features. You can use this for personal and commercial projects, but not for resale. Let me know if you need any help!

One challenge of a monoline connecting typeface, is that since everything is the same weight, kerning has to be spot on. Avoid "optical" kerning in the kerning pallet. Auto or Metrics should be automatically selected, but in case optical is your default, switch to metrics. Optical is the computer's best guess on how to kern, metrics follows the rules made by the designer so is much more accurate. Unfortunately optical is the standard for web viewing, but metrics will allow for a more seamless look.

Also, any overlaid texture in the images above is not including in the typeface, unlike my typefaces Flam and Plat for example.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

After you unzip your font product files, you will see .OTF or .TTF files. To install a font, just double click on the OTF or TTF file. For more information, check out our Font FAQ.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
