What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. About

Araldo is a headline font with spunk for today. I needed something with a little life for my favorite book production group: Biblia Serif, Dreatha, and now Araldo. This new font family is doing well for me. Biblia Serif and Draetha are both excellent book production font families. In other words, they are not memorable. In fact, if they do their job well, you don’t even notice them. But as I mention in the Araldo Spec Sheet, there come times when you must break out of those restrictions and bring a bit of life into the layout. Araldo was designed to meet that need. I’m happy to say, it seems to be working well. It’s a little in your face, but not too heavy about it. It seems to give a nice respite in the middle of the seriousness of the day. I’m quite pleased so far. I want to do some more fonts like this, but it’s a good start. Araldo is Italian for a herald, one who proclaims. For me that goes well with Biblia Serif, and Dreatha [which is Welsh for preach]. There may be more in the future, but for now these two styles are all that I’ve produced. Araldo is built with the same metrics as the rest of the group, but it is much looser and makes dramatic, or at least intriguing, heads. The bold version was a lot of fun. The stem thickness was too large to fit three times within the x-height. So, I had to modify the a, e, s, and z. It also made small caps virtually impossible. For a touch of nostalgia, since it is actually a major modification of my first font—NuevoLitho, I also added all the old ligatures I used to use when I first started designing fonts in 1994. With the ligatures, you can make many special word images. There are over a dozen to work with.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

After you unzip your font product files, you will see .OTF or .TTF files. To install a font, just double click on the OTF or TTF file. For more information, check out our Font FAQ.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
