PM Tarot Grotesque Sans Serif Font
About
A new font based on vintage tarot card hand-lettering.
The PM Tarot typeface series began as a small personal project of digitizing the hand-lettering of the Rider-Waite Tarot. But over a six-month period in 2023, it expanded to 5 unique typefaces with many style variations.
With all the typefaces in the PM Tarot series, we've stayed true to the quirkiness and unique structure of the original lettering by including hundreds of alternate characters and ligatures. Even the clean, modern versions of the typefaces in the series maintain unique variations found in the original hand-lettering that deviate from standard type classifications.
The PM Tarot Grotesque letterforms are based on the Astrological Tarot, or Le Tarot Astrologique in French, which was first conceived in the roaring 20s in Paris, France. It was developed by Georges Muchery, an influential occultist of the time, and illustrated by the French artist Henri Armengol. This deck was the culmination of Muchery's work combining elements of astromancy and cartomancy.
