DISTORTED PERSPECTIVE
About
Distorted Perspective is a free custom block-capped sans serif typeface that explores the effects of alcohol on vision and perception. Rooted in the concept that impaired sight can have serious consequences, it visually translates the journey from sobriety to intoxication through the four key stages of distortion. It was designed however to be more than a typeface, it functions as a statement against harmful drinking habits, highlighting that blurred perception is only one of the many risks associated with alcohol misuse.
The design uses progressive blurring, warping, and distortion to simulate the disorienting effects of intoxication. As the weights intensify, legibility decreases, reflecting instability, confusion, and the loss of control caused by excessive drinking. The result is a typeface that challenges the viewer to confront discomfort and reflect on how perception can be altered.
The four weights include:
Sobriety – A clean, highly legible form, representing clear vision and balance. Subtle irregularities hint that perception can begin to shift even at low levels of alcohol consumption.
Euphoric – Still readable, but slightly warped and softened with a gentle blur, suggesting light intoxication and the first signs of unsteady perception.
Confusion – Increasing distortion and blur reflect growing disorientation, where control and clarity begin to slip while the text remains barely legible.
Stupor – Fully abstracted and unreadable, with heavy distortion and motion effects that mirror a complete loss of control and extreme intoxication.
The typeface is free to download and includes the Sobriety weight as a standalone file. An easy to follow guide is provided in the download folder explaining how to recreate the Euphoric, Confusion, and Stupor weights.
Designed primarily for bold headlines and impactful statements, Distorted Perspective can also be used for subheadings and display text to amplify its message. With its four progressive states, it serves as both a functional typeface and a visual statement to raise awareness.
This typeface is designed to be explored. Use it, experiment with it, and push its boundaries to create work that leaves a lasting impact.
