Nerissimo
About
Rooted in brutalist architecture and pop culture graphics, Nerissimo is a condensed sans serif designed to make a statement. The typeface balances geometric rigour with organic curves, producing letterforms that feel both industrial and approachable—perfect for branding, editorial, and advertising work that needs visual punch. The family comprises 18 styles across six weights: Light, Book, Regular, Demibold, Bold, and Black. Every weight includes three slope variants—upright, italic (13° angle), and super italic (22° angle)—allowing designers to fine-tune emphasis and motion. The boldest styles reach impressive levels of density, particularly effective when set solid or with negative leading in uppercase headlines. Nerissimo takes its name from Italian typographic language. “Nero” traditionally describes bold type weights (separate from its common meaning as the colour black), and when combined with the superlative “-issimo,” yields “Nerissimo”—literally, “the most bold.” Notable design features include unconventional forms for M, N, S, and W that establish the family’s personality. Each style contains 768 glyphs and supports over 220 Latin-based languages. OpenType capabilities are extensive, with 27 features covering everything from stylistic sets to case-sensitive punctuation. Automated refinements built into the fonts: • Descenders on lowercase ą and j intelligently shorten to prevent overlap with surrounding characters • Optional www ligature saves horizontal space in digital contexts • Round symbols (@, ©, ®, ℗, and enclosed numerals) automatically adjust vertical position when adjacent to uppercase letters, streamlining the case-sensitive forms workflow
