Hey Alys! I'm sorry the product didn't meet your expectations. Although the product description states that these are jpeg files, the jpeg format does not support transparency. You can overlay smoke on the image you need using the 'Screen' mod in the layer settings in Photoshop (or another app) and then the black background will disappear.

How can I unzip product files?
