Why do the objects import so small into my photoshop files?

All of the PNG files are formatted at 300DPI and photographed at very high resolution. However, when draging them into a photoshop document, if that document is not 300DPI, I have found there can be some import issues. For instance if your document is 72DPI, the files may import very small. I have found to get around this, open the PNG in it's own document first, then copy/move into the final document. This should bring it in at it's true resolution.
