Burlexa: A Devilishly Good Serif Fon
About
Burlexa is a flirtatious serif font that winks at the golden age of showgirls, pin-ups, and candlelit tiki lounges. It’s been shaken, stirred, and given a dash of gothic drama — just enough to make you wonder if it’s teasing or casting a spell.
It appeals to a nostalgic 1950s charm, of TV sitcoms playing to a bewitched studio audience, Vegas shows hosted by the Rat Pack, and cocktails set against exotic soundtracks. It's equal parts devil and delight, naughty and nice.
The Burlexa font family includes a double act of the Regular style (upper, lowercase, numerals, and multi-language support as standard) and the All-caps alternative, which gives the font an edgier look. Also included are a host of custom ligatures and decorative capitals featuring preset versions of the devilish tails — more about those below.
If you happen to fall head over heels in love with the ladies used in these visuals, you'll be happy to learn that they're available in my Pin-Up Illustrations Bundle (find it in my store). Each illustration (by yours truly) comes in its own fully editable and easy-to-use poster template for Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Decorative Tails: I've included preset versions of all capitals featuring what I'll call the 'devil tales'. You'll find these either as pop-up stylistic options or by selecting them directly from the glyphs menu in your program of choice. But if you want to get into the details and try something different, I've also included a range of separate tails that you can add yourself to the standard capitals. You'll find these hidden as alternative characters in all the numerals, or in your glyphs menu. Enjoy!
