Saw this font and was looking forward to using it on a design project for a poetry book cover. I thought it might be well suited to chapter titles as well but the kerning applied with InDesign using the font's built-in metric tables didn't seem quite right. Alt characters are nice and provide the kind of variety I was looking for. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with the quality of the finer aspects of the font. Punctuation, in particular, such as quotation marks (small and not well positioned) and the exclamation point (overly tall, extending well above the cap level) didn't look well thought out. And the italic version: looks like a skewed version of the regular font. The font has a lot of alternate versions of each character and the swash versions look good. So. Good for titling, using optical spacing (an InDesign option) but hard to see where else—perhaps for logotype. I don't think I could recommend it for much else.
I purchased the font Basic Serif rather than download the free version specifically because I wanted the alternate characters. I am now confused and disappointed because I wanted the swirls and embellishments. I can't see any of them in my download. It looks like I can only access them with Adobe Illustrator. I don't have that program. I am using a Mac, am I now out of luck for getting the aspects of the font that was my reason for purchase? Contacted them but got a very unsatisfactory response. How can I get what I paid for?
