What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. About

Skillet is a bold vintage style serif font full of hedonism and joie de vivre. Skillet has strong character and extremely smooth features and self-confidence that springs from within. Skillet comes in two weights: Regular and Condensed. Even though the difference is small, Regular takes over the space while Condensed gives a more intimate impression.

Skillet comes with a wide range of OpenType -features. Keep Standard Ligatures on in normal use. Try Discretionary Ligatures, Swash, Stylistic or Titling Alternates for custom headlines or logos.

Skillet comes in two versions: Regular and Condensed. Both versions are OpenType fonts and have a wide variety of alternative characters. Fonts are PUA encoded and you can access the alternative characters with OpenType controls in any OpenType savvy program or manually from Character Window.

Hi Katherine, All the specimen posters are made using only Skillet typeface. If you refer to the alternates used in the posters -then yes, you don't get them by just typing (if you refer to something else, please let me know what you mean). Normally alternate characters are hidden inside the font because you can't type with only the alternates, it would make a mess! The alternates are supposed to be used for spicing up and you need to activate them when you need them. I've also written this in the "About the product" -part. Please DM me for more instructions, thanks! This is getting confusing! As I'm scrolling the reviews I see 1-star reviews from people who apparently don't know how to operate with OpenTypeFonts (which is fine, that's why there are instructions), don't read any instructions I've provided and don't answer my messages / help offerings. Really bizarre. Anyway, I promise the font contains all the alternatives shown in the specimen posters and more. It's an OpenTypeFont (.otf) and you need to fetch the alternates from either Type / Glyphs -Window or with OpenType buttons etc. Different software have different ways and some illustration software for example don't support OpenType -features.

This is an awesome font — super easy to use! Ignore the bad reviews on this one — the people who say it's just a basic font just don't know how to use the font, haha. This font is great and has a lot of options for different ligatures and fun options to make it look really special! Super recommend.

How can I unzip product files?

PC: To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location. To extract the entire contents of the compressed folder, right-click the folder, click Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

Mac: Double click the .zip file, then search for the product folder or product file.

How do I install a font?

After you unzip your font product files, you will see .OTF or .TTF files. To install a font, just double click on the OTF or TTF file. For more information, check out our Font FAQ.

What software do I need to use this font?

When a font is installed on your computer, it can be used with any program that allows you to create text. Fonts will work in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe software, and almost any other program with a text editor.
