Historical Press font
About
Historical Press was created from scans of original letterpress type that show years of heavy use. The characters were designed to simulate over-inking, which adds to the overall authenticity of the font. This font would be a great companion for label design and branding use!
- Authentic period font
- Standard open type font files
- Includes upper and lower case characters
- Old-style numbers

I was looking for a distressed old newspaper type font when the font "Old Newspaper Types" started behaving strangely with macOS Big Sur in Pages 10.3.5, adding double closed quotes to the end of lines. Historical Press is a bolder font and actually worked better for me than Old Newspaper Types would have for one recent project. Creative Market's prompt for a review had stated that a review should let the producer "know what you liked about their product and what could be better." It's a good font, so these are minor things: I think I would have liked a somewhat shorter hyphen, and given that it's called "Historical Press" a few more old punctuation and other characters would have been welcome. E.g. some ligatures æ, the pound currency and mass symbols £ and ℔, the per sign ⅌ - one that relatively few fonts seem to offer. A separate lighter-weight distressed old newspaper type font would be nice to see as well.
