Welcome Priya to the Team

Not only is today a glorious day full of candy and sweets, it’s also the day you get to meet the wonderful Priya Kothari! Priya is a font enthusiast, lover of fantasy football, foodie, and Creative Market’s new, and uber-organized, senior project manager. Priya is already fitting in splendidly here at Creative Market, and we can’t wait for all of you to get to know her better and welcome her to the team.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do for Creative Market.

I grew up in Fort Worth, TX, currently live in Austin, TX, and proudly represent both cities as often as possible. I’m lucky to have wonderful family and friends that I enjoy spending as much time with as possible. While I consider myself an introvert, I’d say it’s more in the “I charge my batteries by being alone” kind of way, rather than being quiet or unsocial. I also have Type A tendencies, but I wouldn’t consider myself overly competitive. I just happen to like things organized.
This last descriptor brings me to what I do for Creative Market: I’m the senior project manager. Essentially, this means I get to work with the entire team to keep our projects organized and on track. Creative Market has so many goals and opportunities, and my aim is to ensure we regularly deliver quality features for our users as quickly as possible.

What were you doing before you joined the team and how did you and Creative Market “find each other”?

My career started in interactive marketing. I loved the industry, but the part I enjoyed the most about my marketing role was managing my projects. A few years ago, I had an opportunity to focus specifically on project management and I haven’t looked back since.
Gerren Lamson and I worked together in Austin about four years ago and we’ve stayed in touch. Recently, Gerren reached out to me about CM’s interest in finding a project manager. I immediately responded to the opportunity. I admire Creative Market and the community they’ve built, I knew I couldn’t pass up a chance to be a part of it.

When not at work, what do you do for fun?

I love going out to eat with friends. Austin, TX has some of the best food I’ve ever had, there are always so many great options to check out.
I feel like an oaf saying this, but I watch TV for fun. It’s always been the way I unwind. In an effort to be less oaf-ish, I’ve recently taken on a couple of hobbies that I’m loving so far. I’ve been interning at a local letterpress studio that I absolutely love. I also picked up my old hobby of black and white film photography. I’m not particularly skilled in either of these areas at this point, but it’s fun to work on them in my free time.
Last but not least, I joined a fantasy football league last year with my best gal pals and I’m officially hooked. I never thought I would care about it as much as I do–I’m strangely addicted to the stress of it.

Do you have any go-to music when you’re working?

In recent years I’ve listened to a lot of electronic or chillwave type music – Washed Out, Toro y Moi, Classixx. I’m currently listening to a ton of Fleetwood Mac while I’m working. Thievery Corporation is another go-to for me.

Have you seen any products here on the site that you especially like?

In general, I get such aesthetic pleasure from seeing something created with great fonts. There are so many beautiful and unique fonts on the site. I could browse fonts on Creative Market for hours!

What inspires you creatively?

I’ve been so inspired recently by writers and storytellers. I’m especially inspired by song writers and comedy writers. To be engaging, vivid, and succinct feels challenging to me, and I admire people who commit time to practice and become strong writers. Writing has always felt so vulnerable, so I respect the bravery involved in writers sharing their work.

Any parting words of wisdom?

My career and my inherent talents don’t fall in to the category of what might be considered traditionally “artisticâ€. However, I really feel that there are so many ways to express creativity and I encourage anyone that may feel that urge to “make†to explore different ways of fulfilling that interest.
Also, everyone should floss daily. Your gums will thank you.
