What are the different types of fonts?

While there are many ways to differentiate fonts, the main different categories to start with are serif, sans serif, script, blackletter, display/decorative, and non-Western. However, this is a nuanced topic - with a rich history, a range of opinions, and many different approaches. For a more detailed breakdown, check out our blog on different font styles here .

What is the difference between a font and a typeface?

The difference between a font and a typeface is that a typeface refers to the overall design, while a font is a specific style, size, or weight within that typeface. This is a bit confusing on its face - we think it’s a bit easier to reference an example. So if “Neue Swiss” is your typeface, "Neue Swiss Bold 12pt" might be your font. Of course, as you’ll find with anything in this wonderful world of fonts, nothing is so simple. For a fuller, more nuanced take (or if you just want to nerd out) you can check out a whole article about this topic here: What is a Typeface and How Is it Different from a Font?

What Font License is Right for Me?

A desktop license is the most common license and covers most commercial font usage. You can create graphic designs (logos, signs, etc.) and products (mugs, t-shirts, hats, etc.) for yourself, or your client(s). These are great for logos and branding, movie titles and captions, PDFs, cards, signs and print merchandise. Products may be sold for profit as long as the letters are not the main selling point of your product (like a house number or stamp set). Embedding fonts is not allowed with this license with a few exceptions (such as a PDF reports). All licenses on our site are perpetual, which means you pay once and use it forever. To use a font on your website, you’ll need a web font license. This type of license allows you to embed font files into the CSS code on your site. From there, site visitors can then see and temporarily use your embedded fonts! Web licenses on Creative Market are priced by pageview limits (essentially this means they are priced according to traffic). Beyond the web, we’ve also got you covered for apps and publications. Our app licenses allow you to embed font files in app code. These are best for things like games, mobile apps, and web apps. Our e-pub licenses are best for ebooks and digital magazines - where you would want to embed the fonts directly into your files. Here’s a helpful walk through on font use in e-books! Creative Market also offers Worry-Free font licensing for enterprise clients. Learn more about our enterprise business offerings here . Still have questions about our licenses? Get more information about all of our font licenses here . You can also chat with our licensing assistant, Creative Mark, who can help answer questions. You can knock on his door in the bottom right corner of your desktop screen.

About

Mexcup is a typeface inspired by the unforgettable visual identity of the 1986 World Cup held in Mexico.

Its retro sports style captures the geometric energy, optimism, and graphic language characteristic of one of the most iconic eras in world soccer. The foundation of the eight main characters (mexico86) is the work of Ruben Santiago Hernández, built with clean lines and distinctive parallel strokes; Mexcup adopts and combines vintage aesthetics with contemporary functionality, offering a strong, elegant, and highly recognizable visual personality. Its style is designed to immediately convey the atmosphere of 1980's sports design from the golden age of international soccer.

This typeface enriches and extends the style for sports branding projects, jersey and apparel design, retro posters, soccer identities, editorials and headlines, vintage packaging, gaming and streaming, and retro-futuristic projects, working equally well in authentic retro projects as well as contemporary visual proposals. This family includes three styles: light, regular, and bold, with a “SmallCap” version.
