A few years ago, typography on the web was limited to a handful of uninspired browser-safe fonts like Verdana, Arial and Times New Roman. But thanks to the advent of services like Typekit, Fontspring and Google Fonts, that’s no longer the case. Web embedding means most popular foundry typefaces can now be displayed correctly in the majority of desktop browsers and even on mobile devices. So web creatives can craft their type in Chrome or Firefox with almost the same artistry that was once reserved for the Photoshop canvas. In this article, we’ve handpicked our fifteen favorite fonts (alliteration unintentional) from the ones available here at Creative Market. 1. Oregon
Conjure up the feeling of a walk in a beautiful north Oregonian forest with this typeface. Oregon is a simple vintage sans serif font with smooth edges that simulate the look of a printing press.
2. Manifold CF
The makers of Manifold call it “strong, unified and articulate”, and we’d be inclined to agree. This is a utilitarian typeface that calls to mind computer terminals of days gone by.
3. Articulat
Bored of Helvetica? Give Articulat CF a try. It’s a heavily Swiss-inspired typeface that’s elegant and proud. You’d be hard-pressed to find a job where this font won’t fit in.
4. Venti
Venti is all class. Venti evokes the feel of typefaces like Brandon Grotesque, but adds a flourish of subtle imperfections to add warmth. Perfect for that Gatsby-inspired invite you’re working on.
5. Visby
Inspired by “the stark beauty and crisp air of the Arctic North”, Visby is a versatile font that works equally well in both upper and lowercase.
6. MÃ…NDAG
MÃ¥ndag is two typefaces in one. In its first form it’s a solid, geometric sans serif with clean edges and round touches. Its second style Fredag includes a few experimental alternates in case you want to mix it up.
7. Albori
Albori is a European-inspired typeface that would aptly suit a cafe menu in the South of Italy. Its round-edged glyphs come in both a thin and light weight.
8. Visby Round
Visby takes the beauty of its sibling font (above) and gives it a fresher, friendlier rounded look. A great alternative to VAG Rounded when you want a typeface that communicates a relaxed, conversational vibe.
9. Odudo
The makers of this font took inspiration from classic geometric fonts like Futura and Avant Garde, and it shows. Odudo’s curves are big, bold and perfect for headlines in the same vein.
10. Isabella Script
Bring back the look of the roaring twenties with this elegant, swashbuckling typeface. Isabella is on call for wedding invites, fancy food menus, or anywhere else your own handwriting isn’t as classy as you’d like.
11. Palm Canyon Drive
Palm Canyon Drive is inspired by retro matchbook covers, travel postcards and Tikki Bars. Not as versatile as some of the other fonts on this list, but perfectly suitable for those occasions where it’s needed.
12. Argent
With a larger-than-normal X-height, Argent isn’t afraid to stand up and say what needs to be said. When a solid, straightforward type choice is what you need, give Argent a try.
13. Rudolf Gagarin
No relation to the reindeer, Rudolf is an Amsterdam-born typeface that’s full of character.
14. Panama
Panama is a minimalist sans serif inspired by hotels of yesteryear.Panama is a minimalist sans serif that has the feel of a relaxed beach hotel in Cuba. Retro, but with a modern twist.
15. Gaze
Gaze is a serif font that’s full of flourish. You might find yourself proposing to your significant other just so you can design a wedding invite with this gorgeous-looking typeface.
